Summer Food Service Program – Ashland Middle School
July 5, 2011 – August 26, 2011

The Ashland School District Food Services Department is pleased to announce that we will be offering a summer food service program at Ashland Middle School. The US Department of Agriculture recognizes nutrition needs for children have more potential in the summer to go unmet than during the academic year. The opportunity for our District to participate in this program became available this year. The following is information about the program the District will offer this summer.
• The summer meals program is available for any child from ages 18 and under.
• There is no cost to the child for the meal; the government will reimburse us for the full cost of the meals we serve.
• There are no income requirements for this program; EVERY CHILD is free during the summer service period.
• Parents may choose to purchase meals for $2.00.
• A parent who wishes to volunteer during the meal service period may be eligible for a shift meal in exchange for the volunteer effort.
• Lunch will be made available from 11:30am to 12:30pm Monday through Friday. Lunch choices will be a hot entrée or a cold sandwich choice.
• Lunch will be served with a choice of milk, fruit, and vegetables.
• Children will be served in the cafeteria. Signage will direct parents and children which way to enter the building and where the cafeteria is located.
• Activities during the meal period might include games, puzzles, art, and reading.
• All questions can be directed to the Food Services Department at 541-482-2811 or gema.soto@ashland.k12.or.us.
The summer lunch program will provide children with appealing, nutritious, and safe meals. As part of a community partnership, educational materials will be made available to children during the summer. We would encourage any community member to bring their families, and come have a fun time!
Enjoy!
